My story

Hi! I am Millie and I will be doing Tough Mudder in May 2024 to raise money for St Peters Hospital. Every penny of what is raised will go to ICU.

For those of you that don't know, our Dad, Paul Cox fell seriously ill on the 8th of August and was taken into hospital on the 9th. We didn't know what was wrong with him, he was taken straight to ICU and was given a 30% survival rate.

It turned out he had severe pancreatitis and his organs were shutting down. He was too seriously ill to have the operation at that time so he was being monitored and being pumped with drugs.

After six days he came off the critical list and got moved onto a ward whilst still being seriously ill. There was nothing they could do as the pancreas was too inflamed so the days were just rolling on.

Then on the 15th of September I rang the hospital to see how we was, ICU told me that he had gone downhill and there was a bleed somewhere. He became critical again so back to ICU dad went.

He became stable again after having 7 blood transfusions. After a few days he was back on a ward and the days went into weeks.

The 26th of September dad went downhill again, he was having another bleed somewhere so he ended up back in ICU having another five more blood transfusions.

The amazing team got him stable again and after a few days he was once again back on the ward. He has been stable since and getting a little better each week. He is waiting now for the operation to happen!
